Macquarie University

Established in 1964, Macquarie University began as a bold experiment in higher education, built to break from traditions: to be distinctive, progressive, and transformational. Today, Macquarie’s pioneering history continues to be a source of inspiration as the University celebrates its place among the best and brightest minds.

Uniquely located in the heart of Australia’s largest high-tech precinct, Macquarie brings together 40,000 students and 2000 staff in one thriving hub of discovery. More than $1 billion has recently been invested in facilities and infrastructure so that Macquarie’s students and staff can thrive in an environment that is inspiring and switched on to the latest digital technologies.

From its beginnings, Macquarie University has defied the traditional boundaries of academia. Instead, Macquarie has pioneered – and continues to pioneer – learning and teaching approaches that challenge conventions and shift thinking in both pre and post graduate settings.

Macquarie’s approach is built around a connected learning community. The students are partners and co-creators in their learning experiences. Their face-to-face experiences are paired with sophisticated and interactive digital resources. Their courses are linked to the latest research discoveries. This approach is continued in the provision of professional development courses for industry specialists including schoolteachers and our partners in other educational sectors.

Macquarie University’s Department of Educational Studies has an international reputation for the quality of its programs, research, scholarship and service to the wider educational community. It has strong links with education providers in all sectors at all levels and actively collaborates with other education professionals.

With a strong tradition of innovation and exploration, Macquarie continues to break new ground. Ranked among the top two per cent of universities in the world and with a five-star World Universities QS rating, Macquarie is one of the world’s best universities, producing graduates that are among the most sought-after professionals in the world. This commitment to high quality carries through into professional development courses offered to school teachers.

Macquarie University takes a bold and innovative approach to research. This approach is largely responsible for Macquarie’s enviable reputation for research excellence – 100 per cent of its research is ranked at world standard or above and more than 100 of Macquarie’s researchers are ranked in the top one per cent of researchers in the world. Macquarie is home to some of Australia's most exceptional facilities - hubs of innovation that unite the students, researchers, academics and partners to achieve extraordinary things.

Macquarie is a well-established leader in educational knowledge and research. It is highly successful and experienced in assisting teachers at all career-stages to develop their specialist skills in advanced practices, particularly in learning and teaching, information and communication technologies and educational leadership.
